MBA

Ingrid and me

MBA.
By which I mean the Midwest Booksellers Association.

About 17 hours after I got home from the UK tour, I left home again for the MBA meeting in St. Paul.

Above is a picture of me and Ingrid Law (and our books). We've been e-buddies since our books came out, and we finally got to meet in person. We had a lovely, chatty breakfast together, and I was thrilled to find that she's even more awesome in person. I hope our paths will cross again soon!

I also got to see fellow Iowa author Anne Ylvisaker, and at last met fellow HarperCollins author [info]jodyfeldman (click through for picture), though somehow I got swept out of the room without managing to say good-bye (sorry, Jody!). She was there to receive an award for her book, The Gollywhopper Games!

We attended a speed-dating luncheon thing, two authors at each table of booksellers for 15 minutes, pitch the book, then switch to a new table. Fast talking fun! The booksellers were really enthusiastic and great.

I generally try to report in about the food associated with any book event, but this time it was mediocre. Rubbery noodles, rubbery chicken. The brownies weren't too bad.

Tomorrow the U.S. tour starts. Starting with NYC! Yike!

Yay, Ingrid! (Yay, Sarah, too, but, you know, that goes without saying :)

Have a good US tour. I will be touring the Elgin/Hoffman Estates area in Illinois this weekend with Blue. Sadly, no one will ask me about my novels (unpublished or otherwise--okay, well, all unpublished at this point).

Same offer--if you come through IC and need a break, stop by. We're an easy side trip off the corn-corn-corn road.

Good luck to Blue!!

Oy, I thought you were on your way home after the UK. ::facepalm:: Didn't realize your whirlwind was still going strong! Sounds like lots of fun and excitement though. :) Happy travels!

Oh, the whirlwind is just beginning! It is lots of fun and excitement, with plenty of down times, too, for gathering my wits and writing.

YOu were in St. Paul?

Oh, if I'd only known!

I know you are probably too busy to visit folks on your tour(s), but let me know next time, willya? I'll show up wherever you are.

I know! I waved at your house when the plane flew over (really, I did!). And squinted in Snurri's general direction. It was just too crazy to plan a visit, plus I was in no state to see anybody, having returned from UK trip and riding on adrenaline and jetlag. Next time for sure!!

Oh, I totally understand. I just would have tried to pop my head in if I'd known.

Perhaps you had your schedule posted, though, and it's through my lack of diligence!

Either way, not a scold, just a: "gosh it would have been nice to give you a quick hug and next time I'd love to!"

It would have!

I had no schedule posted, due to my own lack of diligence. Next time. If there is a next time. I have no idea if all of this touring is going to continue, or what. Totally depends on how the book does, I suppose, and that's out of my hands.

Thank you!! The kid readers are the BEST. It's stressful, you know, the traveling and presenting to audiences. I always get a little jittery. But the payoff in excitement and energy from the readers is huge and makes it sooooo worth it.

Don't forget to take Vitamin C for endurance, and keep having a wonderful, wonderful time!

I don't have any C! I shall endeavor to endure without it...

Thanks for the good wishes--I'll try to enjoy it.

You had plenty good reason to sweep out of there without your goodbyes. Just make sure you say it next time :o)
